Any programmer capable of programming 32 pin DIL version of Hitachi 28F101, and having the correct modified algorithm for this H8 microcontroller

General Description

AD517 is part of a family of standard adapters conforming entirely to Hitachi specifications.

Important Note

The H8-3337F microprocessor has a programming algorithm similar to but not identical to the Hitachi 28F101. As a result most programmers which can program the 28F101 can easily be set by their manufacturers to program this micro part. However this will require the microprocessor part to be selected in the programmer's device menu, not the 28F101. The MQP programmers mentioned above have a suitable algorithm setting. Using another manufacturers programmer with this Hitachi micro will depend on getting a software update from that manufacturer covering this part.

Instructions for Use:

Select device type Hitachi HD64F3334 or HD64F3337 on programmer.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that ID checking on programmer is disabled to prevent damage to A9 pin on micro. (This device does not have a silicon signature.)
Ensure that address range is set to 00000-07FFF for the 3334 or 00000-0F77F for the 3337.
Insert AD517 in programmer socket as appropriate (note that pin 1 of the DIL base pins is marked on the underside).
Program as normal.
To avoid activating reset circuit, do not verify below Vcc = 3.75V
Note: the adapter has a power on reset time of 50 - 100 ms. The programmer must allow for this.

The above precautions would be automatically met on most programmers by setting device type HD64F3334/7. The information is given to assist manufacturers of third-party programmers.

Fitted capacitors need not normally be modified but the following information is provided to assist our customers in special technical situations:

1. A capacitor (eg 10nF) is normally fitted to bypass VPP supply.

2. A capacitor (eg 10nF) is normally fitted to bypass VCC supply.
